Youth Empowerment Space

💙 Creating Spaces for Young People to Thrive

Funded by The Phoenix Way, our Youth Empowerment Space is a year-long programme supporting Black and racially minoritised girls and boys aged 5–18 who may be at increased risk of serious violence.

Running throughout 2025–2026, the programme creates safe and supportive spaces where young people can build confidence, strengthen resilience, express themselves and access positive opportunities.

Through Youth Voice, Homework Club, Sexual Awareness & Prevention, creative workshops and cultural activities, young people have been encouraged to develop their confidence, skills, relationships and sense of belonging.

Working with PowerBoxFitness, young people have also taken part in boxing alongside AQA-accredited learning, combining physical activity with opportunities to develop discipline, focus, resilience and recognised achievement.

A highlight was our Cultural Showcase, which brought young people, families and the wider community together to celebrate culture, creativity, talent and achievement through music, poetry, boxing, fashion and creative arts. Young people also received recognition for their AQA achievements.

As the programme approaches completion, Youth Empowerment Space reflects our commitment to early intervention — creating safe spaces, strengthening young people's voices and providing positive pathways towards safer, healthier and brighter futures.

Partnership and collaboration have been central to the programme. With funding from The Phoenix Way, fitness sessions delivered by PowerBoxFitness, and the support of Oasis Academy Hadley, we have been able to combine our strengths, expertise and resources to create meaningful opportunities for young people.

From Student to Role Model

💙 Inspiring the Next Generation

Former A former high-achieving student at Oasis Academy Hadley, Justin is now a valued member of our team, supporting and inspiring the next generation of children and young people.

Working across our Youth Empowerment Space, Justin plays an active role in many areas of our work, including the Homework Club, Youth Voice, Community and Cultural Events, Workshops, Work Experience Placements and AQA Support. He tutors younger students, facilitates activities, supports young people with their learning and development, and confidently hosts events.

Having once been a student at Oasis Academy Hadley himself, Justin can closely relate to the young people he supports. He understands their school environment, the opportunities available to them and some of the challenges and pressures they may experience, making him a positive, approachable and relatable role model.

His journey makes him a positive and relatable role model, someone young people can connect with, learn from and see as an example of what is possible. Through his encouragement, leadership and willingness to give back, Justin helps young people build confidence, recognise their potential and believe in what they can achieve.

Keeping Our Children and Young People Safe

At My Wellbeing Space (MWS), we are dedicated to ensuring that every child has the right to equal protection. We have implemented comprehensive processes to keep our children and young people safe:

  1. Designated Safeguard Lead: Our Qualified Safeguard Lead acts as the central point of contact for any child protection matters, overseeing all safeguarding concerns at MWS.

  2. Policies and Procedures: Governed by Enfield Voluntary Action 2023, our policies and procedures for children, young people, and vulnerable adults are regularly reviewed and updated annually to ensure the highest standards of safety.

  3. Referral Partners: Our partners, Oasis Academy Hadley School, Oasis Academy Community Hub, and The Safer Neighbourhood Team have dedicated safeguarding teams and robust child protection policies and procedures in place.

  4. Parental Collaboration: We work closely with parents/guardians to ensure the safety of their children.

  5. Supervision Ratios: We ensure appropriate supervision ratios during activities, enabling staff to effectively manage associated risks and safeguard the students.

  6. Enhanced DBS Certificates: All partners, staff, sessional workers, volunteers, and anyone coming into contact with the students are required to present up-to-date Enhanced DBS certificates.

  7. Dedicated Advocacy Team: We have a dedicated team of advocates, including mentors, support workers, wellbeing professionals, and specialist workers, to support the girls in this programme.

Summer Fitness Camp 2024

🏋️ More Than a Fitness Camp

Summer 2024, My Wellbeing Space and The Youth & Family Hub came together to deliver a transformative experience for young people across Enfield through our Summer Fitness Camp, an initiative designed specifically for members of the Enfield Youth Centres.

Funded by the Phoenix Way Fund and The Youth & Family Hub, this community-driven programme was developed to provide a safe, supportive, and empowering space for young people during the summer holidays.

Far more than just a fitness programme, the Summer Fitness Camp offered a holistic approach to wellbeing. With a strong focus on Black and racially minoritised girls, the camp engaged over 100 young participants through a carefully curated mix of physical training, creative workshops, and mindfulness sessions.

From boxing and circuit training to vision board making and guided reflection, each activity was designed to:

  • Promote physical and mental health

  •  Build discipline, teamwork, and self-esteem

  •  Keep young people off the streets and away from negative influences

  •  Create a sense of belonging and community

By providing a structured, engaging environment, the camp helped young people develop essential life skills while fostering positive peer relationships and a healthier lifestyle.

The impact extended beyond the participants, parents gained peace of mind knowing their children were in a safe, enriching space, offering them much-needed support during the holiday period.

Our Summer Fitness Camp proved that with the right support, environment, and opportunities, our young people can thrive.
